Reports to:  News Director/Assignments Manager  Purpose/Reason for this Position:  5NEWS is looking for an energetic, experienced reporter to work in Fort Smith and cover news in the Arkansas River Valley. Reporters gather all necessary information and resources for a wide range of news stories, and report it accurately. Curiosity is a must. We’re looking for a creative storyteller with solid writing skills. You must be a motivated self-starter who is willing to hustle and enterprise stories. The right candidate will be able to gather, write and web publish multiple stories a day. Web publishing skills and non-linear editing skills are a big plus.  Core Job Functions:  The ability to turn a wide range of hard news stories quickly Develop and maintain meaningful contacts.  Must be able to come up with new story ideas everyday.  Works with photographer to tell visual stories with compelling interviews and natural sound.  Writes, produces and prepares assigned news stories for air, including the delivery of those stories on tape or live from the scene.  Daily web posting, and or blogging.  Performs all other duties as assigned.  Flexible work schedule.  Minimum Knowledge Skills & Abilities:  Ability to speak standard English and write grammatically correct English. One-to-two years experience in TV reporting and news gathering. Ability to use a personal computer, manipulate digital video and non-linear editing skills are important. Final Cut Pro and ENPS experience is a big plus. The ability to type 35 wpm. Must possess a valid State Driver's License (or be able to get one).  Education Requirements:  A four year degree in liberal arts or journalism is preferred and/or two years work experience.  Physical Requirements:  Ability to use radios, audio equipment, telephones, etc. in newsgathering. Must be able to work outdoors in all kinds of extreme weather conditions. KFSM/Fayetville, AR Meteorologist/Reporter July 4, 2010

Station: KFSM-TV  Reports to: News Director/Chief Meteorologist  Purpose/reason for this Position:  KFSM is looking to grow its weather and news departments with the addition of a Meteorologist/Reporter. The right candidate will anchor weather on the weekend evenings, and also report three days a week. Reporting will consist of telling weather, environmental or human interest stories. That means you'll be getting plenty of reps in weather as you report as well: expect at least a 50/50 mix over a 12-month period. The ideal candidate will be a meteorologist. A reporting background is preferred, but we can work with you on that if necessary.  The right candidate will bring energy and personality to our team. We’re looking for someone who can do live shots and turn stories. The right candidate will also be a Meteorologist capable of aggressively handling severe weather in studio and out in the field.  Core Job Functions:  Develops weather forecasts for air using local data from automated weather observation sites, satellite and radar data as well as numerical prediction ensemble models.  Communicates a clear and concise “weather story” and relates the story to viewers.  Responsible for the airing of severe weather statements, cut-ins, crawls and specials that may air from time to time.  Arranges and composes maps and illustrations using the Weather Central 3:D LIVE platform.  Daily radio forecasts and internet duties related to weather forecasts.  Makes regular public appearances, including frequent school visits, and assists in the development of station promotional efforts, Provide new content and reports weather and news for newscasts, Report and do live shots on occasion, Blog, and creatively update our website, Performs other duties as assigned.  Minimum Knowledge Skills & Abilities:  Ability to speak standard English and write grammatically correct English. Must be able to drive a vehicle. Experience and effective use Weather Central, Quest, & ENPS preferred. Ability to use computer and type. Must possess a valid State Driver's License (or be able to get one).  Education Requirements:  A bachelor degree in meteorology or similar science related field and AMS Seal of Approval (or be able to get one).  Physical Requirements:  Ability to communicate using voice, site and hearing for reporting and gathering weather. Ability to use telephone, radios and other equipment in gathering weather news.
