A growing broadcasting company is seeking a News Director to lead in a medium-sized market in the Southwest. Five to ten years of News Management is required. Three or more years of News Director or Assistant News Director experience preferred. Candidates must have a successful record of ratings growth, budget maintenance and new media development. Description: Shoot, write and edit stories for news or other programming on air and the internet. Perform reporting, producing, video photography, editing, anchoring, assignment desk and voice work depending on the needs of the department or specific story. Determine when facts on a story have been sufficiently developed to justify on the air presentation. Write or rewrite news stories provided by wire services or similar outside sources. Contribute initiative concepts and ideas on a regular basis. Up-to-date on current events and city/world developments of interest to viewers in the community and throughout the world. Represent the station at various community events. Accept general reporting assignments from Managing Editor or Executive Producer. Cover news events by interview, observation and research as a one-person team including shooting, fronting and editing a package or live report. Provide story narration on or off camera. Following training, operate microwave live truck. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: College degree preferred. Some experience in reporting, anchoring, video photography and editing. Newsgathering experience and writing experience required. Excellent journalistic skills and editorial judgment. Ability to work well under pressure while meeting strong deadlines. Ability to work well as a team, as well as independently. Ability to handle stressful situations and adapt well to change as necessary to develop the story. Computer and accurate typing skills. Exceptional communication skills, creativity, and detailed knowledge of field production and demos. Knowledge of basic computer software, videography equipment. Knowledge of iNews preferred. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) helpful. Videography and editing skills required. Knowledge of ENG microwave equipment helpful. Valid AZ Driver’s license required.
